Welcome to our charming fully restored traditional detached cottage in a beautifully quiet rural hamlet near Poitiers. The cottage is very secluded but only 3km from Liglet, a delightful village with bar/restaurant and general store/bakery/post office. You will have a roomy traditional farmhouse dining/kitchen with wood burner, fitted and free-standing units. The comfy sitting room also has a dining area and second wood burner. You will also have a further small day room on the ground floor. The second floor features a bright and airy salon, perfect for relaxing in at any time of day. The large grenier bedroom has a double bed and two singles with a curtain divider. The second grenier bedroom has a double bed and overlooks the garden. There is an attractive bathroom with shower over. You will have a large garden of 1800m2 with ample private parking. The rear of the cottage has a large flat open grass area with occasional fruit trees, ample sun loungers and mixed hedge screening making it totally private. There are two gravelled patio areas, both with hardwood furniture, parasols and a barbecue is available on the rear terrace.   L'Ile aux Serpents is in La Trimouille and well worth a visit. You can find more than 60 species of animals including alligators, caymans, lizards, snakes, tortoises, crocodiles and chameleons, as well as otters, mongeese and desert cats. There is a shop with refreshments and a wide variety of quality craft items. A couple of kilometers from the cottage you can find the romanesque priory of Villesalem, which was occupied by Benedictine monks from 1109. The church survived the Hundred Years’ War and its sculptured facade of Notre Dame de la Paix is magnificent. The abbey of Saint-Savin lies close to the cottage and was made a UNESCO World heritage site in 1983 thanks to its exceptional romanesque wall paintings. These are displayed amidst fibreoptic lighting, stained glass windows and wrought iron lamps. There is a scenographic tour in the monastic buildings, including films, dioramas and multimedia activities. Montmorillon, the City of Books and the Written Word is a charming Medieval town with winding streets to explore and pavement cafés. There is a well-equipped tourist office here and a great Wednesday morning market. It also offers crazy golf, tennis and an equestrian centre. Le Blanc is a nearby town situated on the river. You can hire boats and canoes and try a variety of watersports or simply enjoy the variety of shops and pavement cafes. Le Blanc has a Sunday morning market. The cottage is situated right on the edge of La Brenne National Park. This provides vast areas rich in flora and fauna, largely hidden from the casual tourist. The preservation of the natural and cultural heritage results in up to 2000 lakes. Since receiving National Park status in 1989, La Brenne is an exceptional location for ornithology with over 260 species recorded and 150 breeding species.

Both bedrooms are in the old grenier. The terracotta room has space and character with exposed beams, brick chimney and a floor of reclaimed terracotta tiles. The far end offers a white wrought iron double bed. There are chests of drawers, dressing table, chairs and hanging rail. The near end is divided by curtains and offers two single beds. rnrnThe oak bedroom features an exposed stone wall, polished oak floor and large window to the rear garden. There is a black wrought iron double bed, chest of drawers, dressing table & chair. There is a double wardrobe and comfy chair.

The bathroom is on the ground floor. It is a good size and the walls are fully tiled in white. It has a full sized bath with shower over, WC and large hand wash basin. There is a towel ladder, a bathroom chair and ample hanging hooks.The tall French window makes this room particularly light and airy and the floor is tiled with the original restored floor tiles. Bath sheets and hand towels are included in the price.

The kitchen is a traditional French country farmhouse kitchen and is very substantial. The original fireplace is a feature of the room with its wood burning stove. The original floor tiles remain, having been fully restored. There is a pine farmhouse table with seating for six people. Fully tiled worktops and splash backs on both sides house an electric oven, a gas hob, fridge, freezer and washing machine. There is also a microwave, toaster, coffee maker & free-standing work units. There is a TV with UK TV stations.

At the heart of the comfortable sitting room is the wood burning stove. There are two roomy sofas with a large coffee table and ample smaller tables. A large sideboard contains a variety of games. One corner offers a dining area with wrought iron table and chairs. There is a large television that receives UK satellite stations, along with a DVD player, a CD/radio player and an Xbox games console with a selection of games. The light decor and traditional south-facing French windows give a light and airy feel to the room. The floor features the original French tiles.

A corner of the séjour is devoted to more intimate dining. You will find a wrought iron round table and four comfy dining chairs with candlesticks to set the mood. Alternatively you may prefer to dine in the farmhouse kitchen.

Additional Information  
There is a second small sitting room between the kitchen and sejour. This room also has the original floor tiles with a large comfortable chair and a good selection of books. This is a good space to take time out and browse the library. The upstairs of the property features a galleried area between the two bedrooms serving as a charming salon. It is set out as a relaxing seating area with a large futon and occasional tables. This is a delightful room as the sunshine streams in through the roof window and bathes the whole room in light.

We are very happy to offer all our guests a discount of £50 off per week from the second week onwards of a single booking at any time of year. The cottage is not available for short-term rent during the Winter Season but we are very happy to consider longer-term lets at discounted prices. Children of all ages are very welcome but must be supervised by an adult at all times. We are very happy to accept up to two well-behaved dogs, for which we charge a supplement to cover additional cleaning costs on departure.
