Marseillan is a delightful picturesque port-side town in Languedoc on the Etang de Thau a magnificent saltwater lagoon and the home of Noilly Prat vermouth. The pretty port is flanked by waterside cafes and restaurants…. The Etang is famous for its coquillages (shellfish) cultivation, you can buy shellfish direct from the producteur for a few euros and wine from the co-operative is also good and inexpensive. Marseillan is on the ‘Route des Pecheurs et des Vins' surrounded by amazing vineyards, all offering tastings and purchases. Picpoul de Pinet is sensational with seafood you’ll see it everywhere. Combined with great weather, good soil and interesting grape varieties, this region produces some delicious wines. Celebrity TV chef Rick Stein discovered the area on his French Odyssey and described the famous Bouzigue oysters and shellfish, from the (Grade A) waters of the etang, as spectacular and the best he'd eaten all over the world….
